Joan M. MacGregor, 67, of Hopkinton died at her home early Saturday morning, Sept. 1, 2001 after a long battle with cancer. She was the wife of Peter MacGregor of Hopkinton. She graduated Needham High School in 1951 and Framingham State Teacher's College in 1959. She taught first grade in the Holliston School system for four years, and was an instructional aide in the Hopkinton School system. Mrs. MacGregor was a Majority Girl of the Needham Chapter of the Rainbow Girls. Besides achieving the pot of gold, she was an installing soloist for the State of Massachusetts. She was a member of the Girl Scouts for more than 50 years. She earned the Curved Bar as a girl in Needham and the Thanks Badge, and Outstanding Volunteer Award as an adult serving in Hopkinton. She was a troop leader and spent many summers directing camps. Mrs. MacGregor was active in the Boy Scouts for 30 Years. She held many volunteer positions and was a council trainer. She was one of the first women in the United States to complete the Wood Badge Training. She earned many honors for her efforts, including District Award of Merit, Commissioners' Award, and the Silver Beaver. Up until her death, she served as an Assistant District Commissioner for Knox Trail Council. Besides her husband, she leaves a son, Glenn MacGregor and his wife, Anna, of Whitinsville; a daughter, Debra MacGregor of Whitinsville; and one granddaughter, Santina Maria MacGregor of Whitinsville. The family will have a private funeral service, and at a later date will announce a memorial service. Arrangements are under the direction of the Chesmore Funeral Home of Hopkinton. Memorial donations may be made to Memorial Garden at Cancer Care Center, 61 Lincoln Street, Framingham, MA 01702 At Camp MacGregor the flag was flown at half mast in Honor of Joan. The Camp was dedicated by the MacGregor's on September 24, 2000 and named after them for their involvement and dedication to Scouting programs and ideals. |
