HSLA acquires New Property for Camp MacGregor
After the 1999 acquisition of the 212 Acre property in Guilford, the long process
of setting up a camp for All Hopkinton Scouters to come and enjoy the region. Many ideas
will be considered for the use of this property. But, the focus will remain to provide a
recreation faculty that will provide an enjoyable experience for all scouters, Brownies,
Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Explorer Posts.
The task of setting up operating committee's to oversee the different aspects of
designing, operations, reservations & scheduling usage, outfitting the facilities,
repairing and/or renovating buildings is no easy task. It takes many volunteers to fill
these positions. Which they give of their time freely to promote, plan, help in the
operations of Camp McGregor. From the small tasks to the large scale and sometimes back
breaking work details.
As work is progressing towards the updating the facilities to meet the needs we anticipate
the usage will be in the future, they are looking great. Recently contractors have
installed a new heating and hot water systems, upgraded the electrical system and our work
teams have painted many of the rooms in the house, done minor repairs, cleaning and
preparing for the interior decorating. (check out the pictures) Landscaping is
another major on going project. With the cutting of the lawns every other week, scheduling
of trimming bushes and tree limbs and planting flower beds. All of which make for a
picturesque place for camping and day trips.
In 2009 we're repairing many things around
the camp, from the structure, insulation,
removing a couple trees that may damage the house further.
This spring we are proud to announce that we will be the site for the first
tow-wide Cub Scout Jamboree in May.
